Moses Structural Engineers is proud to share that the BMO Fischer-Hallman Branch has been recognized with a Workplace Excellence Award at the 2025 CoreNet Global Canadian Chapter REmmy Awards, celebrating innovation and excellence in Canadian corporate real estate.
Opened in Kitchener, Ontario, the Fischer-Hallman branch marked a major milestone for BMO as North America’s first net-zero energy, Passive House–certified bank branch. Designed to meet Passive House and Zero Carbon Building standards, the branch achieves exceptional energy efficiency through a high-performance building envelope, advanced airtightness, and efficient mechanical systems with heat recovery. On-site solar energy generation allows the building to produce as much energy as it consumes annually, reducing operational energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to a conventional build.
Building on this success, BMO has since opened its second net-zero energy branch at Marlborough Mall in Calgary, Alberta, extending this high-performance approach to an even colder climate and reinforcing the bank’s leadership in sustainable workplace design.
The Fischer-Hallman branch received the Workplace Excellence Award – Small (Under 20,000 sq. ft.), recognizing real estate projects that raise the bar through innovation, sustainability, and thoughtful execution. The project was delivered by Kearns Mancini Architects, in collaboration with the consulting team, and was celebrated at the REmmy Awards Gala held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
