Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area Opens Along Mississauga’s Waterfront

Moses Structural Engineers is proud to celebrate the opening of the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area, a landmark waterfront restoration project along Mississauga’s eastern shoreline.

More than a decade in the making, the 26-hectare conservation area has transformed a formerly degraded section of the Lake Ontario shoreline into a vibrant public greenspace. Created through a partnership between Credit Valley Conservation, Peel Region, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the City of Mississauga, the City of Toronto, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and community advocates, the project represents one of the region’s most significant shoreline restoration and habitat creation efforts.

The new conservation area features an accessible network of trails, boardwalks, lookouts, gathering spaces, and an Indigenous Teaching Amphitheatre. Visitors can explore 3.6 kilometres of trails, including 1.9 kilometres of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, while experiencing newly created wetlands, grasslands, forest habitat, shoreline features, and views across Lake Ontario.

Named in honour of the late Mississauga Councillor Jim Tovey, a dedicated advocate for environmental conservation and the Lakeview community, the conservation area reflects his long-standing vision for reconnecting people and wildlife with the waterfront. What was once an industrial shoreline is now a place for recreation, learning, ecological restoration, and connection to nature.

MSE is proud to have contributed to the project through our work on the feature structures, supporting a public space that advances shoreline restoration, public access, Indigenous placemaking, and a more sustainable future for Mississauga’s waterfront. We hope everyone can take the time to explore this new section of waterfront and enjoy the team’s work on the feature structures.
